Update Subscriptions and the End of Upgrades

Note, due to some customers needing longer to get orders processed in their companies, the Upgrade Amnesty has been extended until April 30th.

We’ve had a lot of questions from customers since Malcolm posted his article about Embarcadero’s planned changes to their Upgrade versions. So many in fact, that we asked him to record a short video answering the most common ones.

So, if you’re wondering:

  • What’s an Update Subscription?
  • What happens to my licenses if I don’t renew?
  • Am I eligible to upgrade?
  • Can I upgrade from Delphi 1?
  • Does he really wave his hands around that much when he talks?

then this is the video for you.

If after watching the video, you’re still unsure about anything, please contact us and we’ll help you sort it out.

  1. A video is nice, but in this work environment (and perhaps that of others) it is hard to understand. Why can’t this simply be explained in a written text/short article/blog post? The Q & A can be the same, just not the form it is presented.

    1. Hi Rudy,

It could be done as text of course, and we do plan on putting up a text version, it’s just down to time. A video is quick to record and post, much faster than writing up and editing the same amount of text. So we did that one first but we’ll get to the text version.

Ironically, I’ve had a few people saying they wouldn’t read the text so thanks for the video. I think different formats reach different people, so for some topics it’s probably worth doing both.
