We have some exciting news to share today. After discussions going back quite awhile, we have entered into a definitive agreement to acquire the assets of the SmartInspect business from Gurock Software. You can read the official announcement on the Gurock site here.
We’ve been fans of SmartInspect for years, having used it from several different languages on different projects, so we had to jump at the chance to ensure that such an incredibly useful product continues to develop and expand.
Our first priority is to get a new build out with some critical updates. There are several issues in the console that we know require attention, as well as some updates needed to get the client libraries current. As just one example, we know that many people have requested updated .NET support, including support for .NET Core. These are the sorts of issues we’ll be focused on in the short term.
However, longer term we have several ideas we want to explore, including new features in the console, as well as broader language and platform support.
We’re also really keen to hear from the SmartInspect community on what you want to see added or improved, and importantly, to understand your priorities. As we progress we’ll be engaging in that discussion more.
As a start, we’ve already reached out to existing customers to introduce ourselves and start the conversation. If any of you have concerns or questions, or even if you just want to make sure we know about that feature you’d really like to see added or fixed, don’t hesitate to contact me directly.
All that said, I am trying to temper my excitement a little. As I write this, the deal is literally only minutes old, so we have a bit of work in front of us to get to that first release. As one example, the previous licensing system was not part of the acquisition, so we have a few gaps like that we need to fill.
OK, who am I kidding? I’m back to being excited again, as I know the rest of the team are. We’ll keep you all updated on progress as we go. Now, I think we better get to work.
Cheers
Malcolm
